CSO Rallies Support For An Akpabio Senate Presidency

By  Andrew Angade

The Nigeria Civil Society Advocacy Group (NiCAG) on Tuesday in Abuja urged Sen. Godswill Akpabio to contest for the position of President of the 10th National Assembly.

The group, which comprises more than 20 civil society organisations and interest groups across the six geo-political zones, also urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other groups to support him.

While addressing a news conference to call out Akpabio, NiCAG’s Chairman, Mr Kenneth Obi, said they decided to urge Akpabio to contest because of what he has to bring to the table.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Obi, who read out a statement by the group was flanked by their Vice-Chairman, Dr Lawrence Okwara, and Director of Media, Pastor Shedrach Oka.

“Akpabio’s endorsement is coming on the heels of the several declarations made by some Senators who are also qualified for the position but cannot fit into the equation at this time .

“We therefore insist that Akpabio remains the best material for this top position under the present circumstances,” he said.

Obi added that Akpabio’s leadership of the Senate under Tinubu’s presidency would be the best thing to happen to Nigeria in terms of inclusive democracy and good governance.

“There is no doubt that Nigeria as a country and Nigerians as a people are going to through so much difficult times.

“We need patriots of discerning characters, competence and capacity to bring that optimal depth of leadership efficiency, balance and service delivery in our leadership quest for maximum output and impact.”

Obi said, “the National Assembly is a microcosm of the Nigerian state.

“Its politics must be played to reflect and satisfy the yearnings of Nigerians for equity, justice and fairness to the zones which have not produced its leadership since the return of democracy.”

The NiCAG Chairman pointed out that in the 24 years of democracy in Nigeria, the office of the Senate President has been held by almost all zones except the South-South zone.

“From 1999 to 2007  it was held by South-East from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“In 2007 to 2015, the Senate President’s office was held by the North-Central PDP, and from 2015 to 2019 it was held by North Central APC.

“From 2019 to 2023 it was held by North-East APC. So, from 2023 to 2027 at least, who should occupy it? Certainly, it should be the South-South,” he stated.

Speaking also, the group’s Director of Media, Pastor Shedrach Oka, said it was clear the South-West, North-West and South-South were the only zones yet to produce the Senate President in the past 24 years.

“With the President-elect from the South-West and the Vice President-elect from the North-East, the zone left behind and well-positioned to get it is the South-South.

“Therefore, there is the need to call on other zones to support the South-South in this endeavour.”

Oka said Akpabio deserved all support to become Senate President because he is a lawyer, grassroots politician, first-class strategist and a two-term governor.

“Our group has no doubt in our mind that Akpabio will be the most documented and successful President of the Senate that Nigeria would ever produce, given his uncommon Midas touch and track record of past performance.

Akpabio is a trusted bridge-builder and Nigeria needs a man that can uphold the unity of the country, stabilise and strengthen its democracy and the independence of  the third arm of government with a strong consideration for national patriotism.

“We therefore, most respectfully, enjoin the leadership of the APC and other major stakeholders to appreciate the effort and sacrifices of the South-South in ensuring that the Tinubu-Shettima ticket emerged victorious during the presidential election,” the group’s spokesperson said.(

Bauchi Youths Says Ex- Rep Speaker Dogara Interfering With Police Case, Group Wants Him Arrested

Adamudu Olefu

….

The Bauchi Consolidated Youth Association has again asked the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police to arrest Ex-Rep Speaker, Yakubu Dogara for what it called interfering with investigation and obstructing the police from carrying out their lawful duty.

The Group in a statement by its Coordinator, Lawal Sani Ningi, was reacting to reports that Dogara had challenged the police Commissioner’s order for the arrest of wanted member representing Bauchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yakubu Shehu, Abdullahi.

“We are extremely worried that after the Bauchi Police Command had in the discharge of its legitimate duty on Tuesday, declared the Rep Abdullahi wanted for criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace and culpable homicide, Dogara had the audacity to attempt to shield him.

“Dogara, in desperation to shield the wanted Rep from the law, claimed erroneously and ignorantly that the Police did not follow due process for ordering for the arrest, on the grounds that the wanted lawmaker enjoyed some immunity from arrest based on criminal allegations levelled against him.

“By his desperation to shield the wanted culprit, Dogara had, by every reasonable implication, exposed himself as part of the sinister plot to destabilize Bauchi State during the coming elections and must be arrested and investigated for his role in the diabolical scheme,” Ningi said.

The Group recalled that it had earlier called for the arrest of Dogara and other collaborators for acts that led to the violence that erupted at Duguri the governor’s hometown in Alkaleri Local Government that left one person dead and 15 others injured, for which Rep Abdullahi is being investigated.”We submit that Dogara’s action constitutes a clear breach of the provisions of Section 145 of the Criminal Code Act in Nigeria relating to obstructing officers of the law from carrying out their lawful duties.

“For the purpose of this petition, we clarify that Dogara’s wilful attempt to obstruct, pervert or defeat the course of justice, constitutes an offence that carries a sentence of imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years if proceeded with by Indictment,” Ningi said.

2027: Fresh Crisis Hits PRP as Akida-Left Faction Drags Donald Duke, Baba-Ahmed to Court Over Leadership

A faction of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), operating under the Akida-Left Faction, has instituted a suit at the Federal High Court seeking the removal of former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, as the party’s purported presidential candidate, and Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as its National Chairman.

The suit, marked FHC/L/CS/444/2026, was filed on October 20, 2026, according to a press statement issued by the Convergence for a Working People’s Political Alternative (COPA) and dated October 21.

COPA, which described the PRP Akida-Left Faction as one of its affiliates, said the action was instituted against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mallam Falalu Bello, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed and Donald Duke over the disputed leadership and presidential candidacy of the party.

In the statement signed by Ayódele Ademiluyi, Lead Counsel to the faction and Co-Chairperson of COPA, the plaintiffs are seeking an order directing INEC to remove Duke’s name from its records as the PRP presidential candidate and replace it with that of Dr. Salih, whom the faction described as a long-standing revolutionary socialist and the party’s valid presidential candidate.

The plaintiffs are also asking the court to direct INEC to remove Baba-Ahmed’s name from its portal as the party’s National Chairman.

They are seeking an order recognising Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu as the duly elected National Chairman of the PRP, arguing that the process that produced Baba-Ahmed was illegal.

The suit comes amid a protracted dispute over the leadership and candidate selection process within the PRP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

INEC’s official website currently lists Baba-Ahmed as the party’s National Chairman, while the commission’s records also reflect the leadership structure associated with his faction.

In a separate legal development, the Federal High Court in Abuja had, on September 30, dismissed an earlier suit challenging Duke’s emergence as the PRP presidential candidate.

The earlier case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1234/2026, was filed by an aggrieved party aspirant, Yakubu Kingsley, who questioned the validity of Duke’s nomination.

Justice Mohammed Umar dismissed the suit, holding that it was statute-barred because it was filed outside the constitutionally prescribed period for pre-election matters. The court also ruled that the plaintiff had failed to establish his claims on the merits.

However, the latest action, according to COPA, raises further questions over the party’s leadership and the recognition of its presidential candidate.

2027: Sa-Gbagyi Endorses Tinubu, Uba Sani, Shehu Sani

The Paramount Ruler of Gbagyi Chiefdom, Sa-Gbagyi, HRH Ishaku Yari (Esu Chikun II), has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and Senator Shehu Sani for re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Yari said the people of Gbagyi Chiefdom and other ethnic nationalities in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State would be mobilised to vote for the three leaders in recognition of what he described as their contributions to the development and welfare of their communities.

The traditional ruler announced the endorsement when Senator Shehu Sani paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.

He expressed satisfaction with the policies of the Tinubu administration and the leadership style of Governor Uba Sani, describing the forthcoming elections as an opportunity for the people to reciprocate the leaders’ contributions to their communities.

The monarch declared his readiness to mobilise the Gbagyi people and other ethnic groups in Chikun to support the re-election bids of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates at all levels.

He said he would encourage his subjects to participate actively in the electoral process, while urging traditional leaders across the various communities to communicate the message of support to their people.

“I am not afraid to come out and tell my people to come en masse to vote for All Progressives Congress candidates, from the President and Governor to senators and other candidates,” Yari said.

He added that traditional rulers across the various communities had a responsibility to engage their subjects and ensure they were adequately informed about the forthcoming elections.

Speaking on Senator Shehu Sani, Yari recalled what he described as the senator’s longstanding commitment to defending the interests of residents of Chikun Local Government Area, particularly during periods of heightened insecurity and disputes over land ownership.

The monarch also recalled the controversy surrounding alleged threats to demolish Gbagyi Villa during the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, noting that Shehu Sani had consistently spoken out on issues affecting the Gbagyi people and other vulnerable communities.

He commended the senator for his interventions on security challenges in Northern Nigeria, saying he had used his position in the National Assembly to draw attention to the worsening security situation and the plight of affected communities.

Yari further highlighted the senator’s reported contributions to healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of a hospital, describing such interventions as important to improving access to medical services for residents.

The traditional ruler also praised Shehu Sani for challenging alleged land-grabbing practices and defending residents’ rights during disputes over land and property.

According to him, these interventions had strengthened the senator’s relationship with communities in Chikun and informed the decision to support his return to the Senate.

Despite endorsing the three political leaders, Yari appealed to the relevant authorities to reconsider the cases of teachers who were dismissed from service and facilitate their reinstatement.

He said addressing the concerns of the affected teachers would demonstrate the government’s commitment to workers’ welfare and help strengthen public confidence in its policies.

The appeal highlights the continuing concerns over the welfare of affected workers as political parties and their supporters begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Issues relating to security, education, healthcare, land rights and economic welfare are expected to remain important considerations for voters in Kaduna State as the election approaches.

The endorsement by the Sa-Gbagyi signals support for Tinubu, Uba Sani and Shehu Sani among the communities he represents.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, the monarch’s appeal for the reinstatement of dismissed teachers also underscores the importance of addressing local grievances alongside political mobilisation.

Matawalle Provides Vehicles to Eight Returning Zamfara APC Lawmakers Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has provided vehicles to eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly who recently returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The vehicles are intended to facilitate the lawmakers’ return to Zamfara State and enable them to resume political engagements and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The gesture follows President Bola Tinubu’s reported directive urging the lawmakers to return to the state and work towards strengthening party unity and cohesion ahead of the polls.

Mohammed Bello Matawalle, who was a former governor of Zamfara state reportedly ordered the immediate release of the vehicles to ease the lawmakers’ transportation challenges and support their political activities in their respective constituencies.

Presenting the vehicles to the eight lawmakers, Managing Director of Nigeria Agriculture Insurance Commission (NAIC), Mr Yazid Shehu Danfulani described the gesture as one of the attributes of Minister Mohammed Bello Matawalle to ensure unity, cohesion and political understanding among all the stakeholders of the APC in Zamfara state.

This singular efforts is also being viewed by party stakeholders in Zamfara state as part of efforts to consolidate the reconciliation process involving the lawmakers and the minister.

The vehicles were provided following the lawmakers’ return to the APC after a period of political disagreement.

Hon Aliyu Ango Kagara thanked the Minister Matawalle for the gesture and promised to work assiduously for the success of President Tinubu in the forthcoming general election.

Akpabio, a Failed Senate President — LAN

The Legislative Advocacy Network (LAN) has criticised the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, questioning his suitability for another term in office and arguing that the leadership of Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber should be determined by legislative performance, accountability, democratic principles and public confidence.

The group’s position comes amid growing political discussions over the leadership of the 11th National Assembly, with questions being raised about the performance of the current Senate leadership and its commitment to the constitutional responsibilities of the legislature.

According to LAN in a statement signed by Comrade Benjamin Joseph, the Senate presidency is a position of national importance that demands independence, transparency, effective legislative oversight and an unwavering commitment to protecting the interests of Nigerians.

The group maintains that the performance of any Senate president must be assessed against these standards rather than political loyalty, party affiliations or the desire to retain power.

LAN argues that the National Assembly must remain an independent institution capable of holding the executive accountable, scrutinising government policies and ensuring that public resources are managed in the best interests of the people.

It further stresses that public confidence in the legislature depends on the ability of its leadership to promote open debate, respect differing opinions and ensure that lawmakers discharge their constitutional responsibilities without undue political interference.

The organisation insists that the emergence of the next Senate president should provide an opportunity for reflection, institutional reform and a renewed commitment to democratic accountability.

It therefore maintains that any decision on the leadership of the 11th National Assembly must be guided by a careful assessment of the incumbent’s record, the effectiveness of legislative oversight and the extent to which the Senate has addressed the concerns and aspirations of Nigerians.

LAN’s position underscores the importance of making legislative leadership a product of measurable performance and public service rather than political calculations.

The group calls on senators and other relevant stakeholders to prioritise the integrity, independence and credibility of the National Assembly in determining who should lead the Senate in the next dispensation.

SHAME: After 3 Years of Ghosting His Constituents in Abuja, Absentee Senator Mr LA Chased Away By Angry Kaduna Youths

Kaduna

It was a moment of public disgrace for the Senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, popularly known as Mr LA, as angry youths chased him out of Zaria Road in Kaduna during what should have been a simple condolence visit.

Senator Adamu had gone to commiserate with the family of the late Councillor, Hon. Ado Dankula, over the death of their relative, but met a hostile reception from youths who said they have not set their eyes on him since they voted him into the National Assembly.

According to the youths, the Senator disappeared to Abuja immediately after collecting their mandate in 2023 and abandoned the people who elected him, only to resurface now because he wants another term in 2027.

One of the youths, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Senator has been completely inaccessible, never visits the constituency, never attends community events, and has failed woefully in addressing the needs and concerns of Kaduna Central.

“For over three years we have not seen him. He has shown no visibility, no accessibility, no engagement. What kind of representation is that?” the youth queried.

He described the Senator’s alleged conduct as a clear case of seeking public office for personal gain and abandoning the people after securing power.

The youths said they were tired of leaders who use and dump the electorate, adding that the Senator’s limited participation in constituency affairs and inability to respond to local issues had become unbearable.

It took the swift intervention of security personnel to save the Senator from further embarrassment and whisk him away from the scene as the youths continued to vent their anger.

“We say no to absentee leaders. We say no to ghost representation. We are ready to come out en masse and vote him out,” the youth declared.

He said the confrontation was deliberately staged to show their total dissatisfaction with what they described as shameful performance and prolonged abandonment.

The incident, which comes as political activities heat up ahead of the 2027 general elections, has exposed the deep resentment against the Senator in his own constituency.

As of the time of filing this report, Senator Lawal Adamu and his team have not issued any official statement to explain his three-year absence or respond to the disgraceful chase from his own constituents.

North-East Forum Defends Uzodinma Amid Wike Rift, Lauds Party Unity Efforts

A group identified as the North-East Forum has expressed support for the Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, PGF, Senator Hope Uzodinma, describing his role in the affairs of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as important to the party’s mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The forum, in a statement made available to journalists, said Uzodinma had demonstrated commitment to strengthening cooperation among APC stakeholders and promoting the party’s programmes across the country.

In the statement signed by Secretary of the Forum, Alhaji Mala Suleiman, the development comes amid renewed political activities ahead of the 2027 elections and recent exchanges involving Uzodinma and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Wike recently accused Uzodinma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of working against him politically. Wike said he had differences with the two governors over political developments and his efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

The North-East Forum, however, said its support for Uzodinma was based on what it described as his contribution to political engagement, party cohesion and the mobilisation of stakeholders.

Uzodinma currently chairs the PGF, the platform through which APC governors coordinate on issues affecting the party and governance. The forum’s leadership status was reaffirmed earlier this year after reports circulated claiming that he had been removed. The PGF subsequently described the report as false and stated that Uzodinma remained its chairman.

The Imo governor has also assumed a prominent role in the APC’s 2027 mobilisation structure. In August, the APC Presidential Campaign Council announced former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General, with Uzodinma named Secretary of the council.

The North-East Forum said Uzodinma’s involvement in national political coordination demonstrated the importance of building bridges across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

It urged APC stakeholders in the North-East to remain focused on issues of development, security, economic opportunities and political stability rather than allowing disagreements among individual politicians to distract from broader national objectives.

The forum also called for constructive political engagement among leaders, saying disagreements were part of democratic politics but should not undermine national cohesion.

Uzodinma has in recent months participated in several APC mobilisation activities. At a South-South Strategic Communications and Mobilisation Summit in Asaba, he called for unity of purpose, a common message and coordinated grassroots mobilisation. He argued that government policies and reforms needed to be communicated effectively to citizens at the grassroots.

The governor has also defended the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign-exchange reforms, arguing that the measures were intended to address longstanding structural problems in the Nigerian economy.

While the forum’s intervention comes against the backdrop of political disagreements within and around the APC, it said its position should be viewed as an expression of support for Uzodinma’s political engagement and not as a call for confrontation with any individual or group.

It appealed to political leaders across the country to prioritise dialogue and issue-based engagement as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

2027: Arewa Youth Group Reaffirms Support for Uzodimma, Warns Wike

The Arewa Youth for Peaceful Coexistence (AYPC) has reaffirmed its support for the leadership of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), chaired by Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, while criticising recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group’s position followed the September 15 declaration by APC governors that they would not participate in or endorse any political alliance capable of weakening the All Progressives Congress (APC) or adversely affecting the party’s candidates in the 2027 elections.

Uzodimma, who announced the position after an APC governors’ meeting in Abuja, said the governors’ campaign commitment was to APC candidates at all levels.

In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Haruna Bature, the AYPC urged APC governors and other stakeholders to prioritise unity, inclusiveness and collective responsibility as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 polls.

The group expressed concern over criticism of the governors’ position, particularly comments attributed to supporters of the Rainbow Coalition associated with Wike.

It said the PGF was within its political remit to insist that APC governors support candidates produced through the party’s official structures.

According to the group, the governors’ declaration should not be interpreted as opposition to support for President Bola Tinubu, but rather as an assertion of the APC’s organisational structure and its candidates.

Wike, however, has maintained that the Rainbow Coalition is a cross-party platform established to mobilise support for President Tinubu’s re-election and has no formal affiliation with the APC.

He has also argued that members of the coalition can support Tinubu for president while backing candidates from other parties in state and legislative elections.

However, the AYPC which vehemently criticised Wike’s attacks on the APC governors, insisted that the FCT Minister should concentrate on his responsibilities in Abuja and allow the ruling party to manage its internal political affairs.

“Wike should be cautioned and told to know his boundaries as a member of an opposition party given the privilege to serve in the Tinubu-led APC government,” the group stated.

The organisation nevertheless acknowledged that support platforms outside the APC could contribute to the mobilisation of votes for President Tinubu, provided their activities did not undermine the party’s candidates or create competing structures.

The AYPC therefore called for restraint among political stakeholders and urged APC leaders, governors and support groups to avoid actions capable of creating unnecessary divisions within the President’s support base.

It said supporters of the administration should pursue cooperation and political stability while respecting the rights of Nigerians to make their choices at the 2027 elections.

The group maintained that the focus should remain on peaceful political engagement, internal party cohesion and democratic participation as Nigeria prepares for the next general elections.

NIICTE 2026: Realist Tech Solutions Founder Demonstrates Future of Enterprise AI

ABUJA — Kaduna-based artificial intelligence developer and software engineer, Samuel Ateh Stephen, has called for a shift from viewing artificial intelligence merely as a tool for generating text and answering questions to deploying it as part of the actual operating infrastructure of businesses and institutions.

Stephen, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Realist Tech Solutions (RTS), made the case while speaking at the 2026 International Conference, Fellowship and Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of ICT Engineers (NIICTE) held at the National Engineering Centre, Abuja.

The two-day gathering brought together ICT engineers, technology professionals, industry leaders and other stakeholders to examine emerging opportunities within Nigeria’s digital economy.

NIICTE, a specialized division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, organised the conference around the theme, “Building the Future of ICT Engineering: Bridging the Digital Divide through Skills, Innovation and Opportunities.”

Stephen’s presentation focused on an emerging model he described as “One Person. One Laptop. One AI-Powered Company.”

Rather than limiting the session to a conventional presentation on artificial intelligence, the Kaduna technologist demonstrated a functioning AI-native business operating system developed by RTS.

Using a simulated company known as Meridian Integrated Services, Stephen showed how a customer request could enter an organisation and be processed by a coordinated AI workforce performing different business functions, including client services, procurement, operations, commercial analysis, documentation and communications.

The demonstration also featured an AI Chief of Staff capable of briefing management on an active business request, identifying areas requiring attention and presenting information from across the organisation to support executive decision-making.

A key element of the demonstration was the retention of human control over consequential decisions.

The AI workforce was allowed to analyse requirements, coordinate tasks, prepare commercial information, generate business documents and prepare communications, but the system was designed to stop at the point where management approval was required.

According to Stephen, the future of enterprise AI should not be built around removing human accountability but around giving capable people access to significantly greater operational capacity.

He argued that the more important question facing organisations is gradually moving beyond “What can AI answer?” to “How much organisational capacity can one competent human direct when intelligence, tools, systems and governance are properly combined?”

The live session demonstrated a workflow in which a business request moved from customer intake to operational execution, executive briefing, human approval and eventual external action.

Stephen said the concept represents a movement away from isolated AI chatbots toward intelligent systems that understand organisational context, operate within defined permissions and interact with existing business tools.

At the centre of the model, he explained, is the principle that AI systems may execute significant portions of organisational work while humans continue to provide direction, authority and accountability.

The presentation drew strong interest from participants, particularly because the concept was demonstrated as a working system rather than presented only as a theoretical model.

For Stephen, Nigeria’s growing conversation around artificial intelligence should increasingly focus on building locally relevant systems that address practical institutional and economic challenges.

He maintained that Nigerian developers and technology companies should not restrict themselves to consuming foreign AI products, but should explore how existing artificial intelligence capabilities can be engineered into solutions for businesses, government institutions, education, infrastructure, research and public service delivery.

The RTS founder also believes that the next stage of AI adoption will require stronger collaboration between software developers, professional engineering bodies, businesses, policymakers and institutions.

Such partnerships, he noted, could help move the country from general conversations about AI adoption toward measurable applications capable of improving productivity, institutional capacity and service delivery.

Realist Tech Solutions, which operates from Kaduna, has been developing AI, software and institutional intelligence systems with a focus on combining human strategy with artificial intelligence and digital systems.

Stephen’s appearance at the NIICTE conference adds to a growing push by young technology builders outside Nigeria’s traditional technology hubs to participate more actively in shaping the country’s emerging AI and digital transformation ecosystem.

For Kaduna in particular, the development also offers another indication of the technology talent and innovation capacity emerging from the state.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform the global technology landscape, Stephen believes Nigeria’s competitive advantage will depend not simply on access to AI models, but on the country’s ability to engineer those capabilities into systems that solve real problems.

His message at the Abuja gathering was ultimately straightforward:

AI should not merely help people talk about work. It should increasingly help organisations get real work done — under clear human direction and accountability.

2027: Northern  Youths Declare North’s Support for Tinubu, Urges Northerners  to Drop Presidential Ambition

Blaise Damilola

… Says Security Reforms, Military Welfare, Rural Electrification Strengthen President’s Chances

The political temperature ahead of the 2027 presidential election received a fresh jolt yesterday as the Arewa Youth Assembly for Good Leadership (AYAGL) declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu enjoys a broadening support base in Northern Nigeria and will face no serious opposition from the region.

The group, in a strongly worded political statement issued in Abuja, said Northern youths had resolved to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term, citing what it described as the administration’s interventions in security, military welfare, pensions, rural electrification and grassroots economic development.

AYAGL, which said it speaks for millions of young Nigerians, socio-political groups and grassroots movements across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, said its position followed consultations with traditional leaders, political analysts, youth coalitions, agrarian unions and civil society actors.

Its verdict was unequivocal: Tinubu will be returned by the North in 2027.

The group said its position was not based on political expediency, but on what it described as “verifiable indicators of patriotic governance, equitable distribution of federal patronage and strategic elevation of outstanding Northern administrators into national leadership.”

In the statement signed by its President, Alhaji Danbature Abdul, AYAGL argued that the Tinubu administration had demonstrated a willingness to give Northerners meaningful responsibility within the federal government while simultaneously pursuing programmes it said were directly impacting communities across the region.

Security featured prominently in the group’s assessment of the administration.

AYAGL commended the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, for what it described as stronger inter-service coordination and intensified military operations against terrorists, bandits and insurgents.

The group said the Defence Ministry had recorded significant progress in the fight against violent criminal groups operating across the North-East, North-West and North-Central regions.

It also linked improved military morale to the administration’s review of salaries, allowances and hazard benefits for members of the armed forces.

According to the group, the welfare measures demonstrated that the government recognised the sacrifices of soldiers deployed in the nation’s most difficult security theatres.

“Under the direct vision of President Tinubu, Gen. Musa championed the historic upward review of salaries, operational allowances and hazard benefits for our gallant armed forces,” AYAGL stated.

The organisation said the measures had “rejuvenated frontline morale” and sent a strong message that the sacrifices of military personnel were being recognised by government.

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, also came under the spotlight as the Northern youth body praised his role in coordinating the country’s intelligence and internal security architecture.

AYAGL credited Ribadu with strengthening intelligence-sharing and supporting operations against violent non-state actors, oil thieves and bandit networks.

The group described the NSA’s leadership style as “non-nonsense” and integrity-driven, maintaining that his coordination had brought greater cohesion to the national security establishment.

The organisation also praised the leadership of the Military Pensions Board, saying reforms in pension administration had improved the welfare of retired military personnel.

It said the adoption of technology and stronger financial controls had helped address longstanding administrative challenges and improve the speed and reliability of pension payments.

For Northern communities struggling with inadequate electricity supply, AYAGL said the activities of the Rural Electrification Agency had provided another major reason for its support for the administration.

The group singled out REA Managing Director/CEO Abba Abubakar Aliyu, crediting the agency with expanding solar mini-grids and other off-grid electricity projects in rural communities.

According to AYAGL, improved electricity access is already supporting small businesses, agricultural activities and cold-chain infrastructure while creating employment opportunities for young people.

The organisation argued that the electrification programme could also help reduce the pressure driving young people from rural communities into already congested urban centres.

But beyond its assessment of government programmes, the statement contained a clear political message to Northern politicians contemplating presidential or alternative political ambitions ahead of 2027.

AYAGL urged such politicians to reconsider their positions and align with what it called the emerging consensus in the region.

“Political figures nursing sectional or divisive ambitions within the region for 2027” should align with the prevailing position of the people, the group said.

It added that Northern youths would not allow themselves to become instruments of political fragmentation.

“Northern youths will not lend their strength to political speculation or fragmentation,” the group declared.

The organisation maintained that the North was “resolute, organised and united” in its determination to support Tinubu’s re-election.

The declaration comes as political calculations surrounding the 2027 presidential election intensify, with political actors and interest groups increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the contest.

For AYAGL, however, the argument is already settled.

The group said the administration’s performance should be judged by outcomes rather than political rhetoric, pointing to security, economic integration, human-capital development and infrastructure as areas where it believes the North has benefited.

“Leadership is measured by results, empathy and institutional performance,” the group said.

It argued that the North remained central to the Tinubu administration’s governing agenda and that the region’s youths would support continuity rather than political experimentation.

The declaration effectively places AYAGL at the forefront of the pro-Tinubu mobilisation in the North and signals an attempt to shape the region’s political conversation well ahead of the 2027 polls.

For the group, the message to Northern politicians and voters is clear: continuity, not fragmentation; consolidation, not political uncertainty.

And with 2027 approaching, AYAGL insists that the North has already made its choice.

Matawalle Vows FG Will End Banditry, Mobilises Support for Tinubu

The Minister of State for Defence and immediate past Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, MON, has reassured the people of Zamfara State and other communities affected by banditry of the Federal Government’s determination to eradicate banditry and other forms of criminality.

Matawalle gave the assurance in Kaduna on Saturday during an interactive meeting with former members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, former cabinet members, Special Advisers and other political associates who served under his administration from 2019 to 2023.

The meeting provided an opportunity for participants to deliberate on critical issues, with security taking centre stage, along with political movements and the development of Zamfara State.

Speaking at the meeting, the Minister said the protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of any serious government, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has intensified efforts in building bridges of peace, unity and political cohesion across the country.

He stressed that President Tinubu will never overlook issues of insecurity, economic development, peace and unity of the nation, despite political activities and other challenges.

“Security of lives and property is the major concern of every serious government in any country. That is why the APC-led administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has focused strongly on securing the nation,” Matawalle stated.

He added that the President’s commitment to national security is evident in his frequent engagements and consultations on security matters, both within and outside the country.

Matawalle urged the gathering to mobilise support for the Tinubu Again Movement, charging them to reach out to communities across Zamfara State and beyond to galvanise support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Earlier, leaders of the various groups represented at the meeting commended Matawalle for maintaining what they described as a formidable political structure since his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State from 2019 to 2023.

They noted that despite his current national assignment as a member of the Federal Executive Council, Matawalle has continued to command the loyalty and support of a significant number of people across Zamfara State.

The leaders pledged their total support and loyalty for the success of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, saying the President’s success would translate into their own success.

They further expressed readiness to market President Tinubu and showcase Matawalle’s leadership, describing him as a leader who has demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare and aspirations of his supporters.
